Day 01 Arrive Beijing

Upon arrival in Beijing, meet our local guide and transfer for hotel check in. Then we freshen up and go tour hutongs, which are an ancient city alley or lane typical in Beijing, where hutongs run into the several thousand. Surrounding the Forbidden City, many were built during the Yuan (1206-1341), Ming (1368-1628) and Qing (1644-1908) dynasties. And it is the old neighborhood of Beijing.

This evening, we enjoy Peking Roasted Duck dinner.

Day 02 Tian'anmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven

This morning, we start our tour from Tian'anmen Square which was the largest square of this world but not it is getting smaller with the buildings rose up around it since 1949. We will pass over a few buildings with revolution symbolization in distance like the People's Hero monument, Chairman Mao's Mausoleum. After getting through the Tiananmen Tower, we get to Wumen, the entrance of the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is a large construction to look over.

In the afternoon, we drive to the Temple of Heaven, which is located in the southern area. The Temple of Heave is much larger than the Forbidden City and its' outskirt is also a large park for the local people to enjoy their low space life there.

In the evening, we have an optional Kongfu Acrobatics Show.

Day 03 Mutianyu Great Wall

We escape from the city and drive about 2 hours to get to Mutianyu Great Wall. After we get into the mountainous area, we could see the wall winds its way on the top of the mountains. In ancient times, out of the wall is the region of the nomads' kingdoms and within the wall, it is the Middle Kingdom. In Mutianyu, we can take cable chair or walk 1000 steps up to the Great Wall and walk around for some while.

We freshen up at the hotel after getting back to downtown in mid-afternoon. Time before dinner is for free exploration. After dinner we start the 46-hour train ride from Beijing to Lhasa. (T27 2130/2000+2)

Day 04 On the train

Day 05 Arrive Lhasa

We meet the local guide at Lhasa train station, transfer to hotel for freshening up. Enjoy the delicate room after a long and exhausted train ride.

Lhasa, the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region, also the center politics, economy, culture and transport of the region, has a history of more than 1,300 years.

Day 06 Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street

This morning, we come to visit the World Heritage Potala Palace, which is the winter palace of the Dalai Lama since the 7th century, symbolizes Tibetan Buddhism and its central role in the traditional administration of Tibet.

Afterwards we visit Jokhang Temple, also founded in the 7th century listed on the World Heritage. It was built for Princess Wencheng by Songtsan Gampo, the king who unified different Tibetan tribes and made ancient Tibetan a strong kingdom.

And then the Barkhor Street around the Jokhang Temple, where we may join the Tibetan pilgrim circling around Jokhang Temple. We visit a local Tibetan family that afternoon.

Day 07 Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery

After breakfast we explore Drepung Monastery which was one of Tibet's largest monastery and monastic universities. It is located in the hills on the northern outskirts of Lhasa, and was established in 1416 as an institute of higher Buddhist education by Khenpo Lekden, a direct disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa (1357-1419), founder of the eclectic Gelukpa.

Afterwards the Sera Monastery in the afternoon. Sera Monastery is well known as the 3 great monasteries of Tibet with Drepung and Ganden. All belonging to the lineage of Gelukpa started by Je Tsong Khapa in early 15th century and all are within Lhasa. The Scriptures Debating is hold 3 pm everyday which is just a vivid painting scroll of the life and study of the monks.

Day 08 Lhasa to Shigatse via Yamdrok Yumtso and Gyangtse

This morning, we drive about 2-3 hours to Yamdrok Yumtso (or Yamdrok-tso), one of the three holiest lakes in Tibet. Yamdrok Yumtso is also surrounded by Mt. Nyinchenkhasa, Mt. Chetungsu and Mt. Changsamlhamo. Befitting its mythical feminine origins, the turquoise blue lake has indescribable scenic beauty, prompting the Tibetans to compare it with the fairyland in heaven.

Upon reaching Gangbala Mountain pass (4,798m/15,737ft), the highest altitude we get to in Tibet, we will see the jade blue water in the snow capped mountains: that is Yamdrok Yumtso! With sheep and yaks scattering on the grassland, the lake becomes colorful with the golden sunshine poured down. We will have our pack lunch on the mountain pass of Gangbala.

We drive on to Gyangtse, where we pay a visit to Kumbum Stupa and Pelkor Chode Monastery, a huge temple with a unique history and a wealth of Buddhist art. Late in the day we arrive at Shigatse, the second largest city of Tibet, with an altitude of 3,836m/12,582ft.

Day 09 Shigatse to Lhasa

This morning we come to visit Tashilungpo Monastery. Known for its with altars and images of exquisite beauty, the monastery is also home to the famous 85ft. copper and gold image of the Maitreya, the future Buddha, and was the seat of the Panchen Lama until his death in 1989. It is associated with the Gelukpa order and is probably the largest functioning monastic institutions in contemporary Tibet and is an impressive place to explore.

We leisurely tour the Shigatse market before lunch and head back to Lhasa in the afternoon.

Day 10 Lhasa to Beijing, fly back

Morning for free exploration. After lunch (on own) we meet at hotel lobby and fly to Beijing for connecting flight back home.
