US plans to open a consulate in Wuhan, the capital city of the central provice of Hubei, China, according to reports from a local newspaper, quoting sources from US Embassy in Beijing. There will also be a commencial office within the consulate, to promote the ever increasing US presence in the central provices.

Traditionally, provinces in central China are served by the US Embassy in Beijing directly, but the increase in demand calls for a new consulate in this inland area of China. It is expected that the new consulate will serve Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui and probably Henan provinces.

China may also open a consulate in Atlanta, Georgria at about the same time.
